Scott Spann, MD, is more than a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon at Westlake Orthopaedics Spine & Sports in Austin, Texas. He’s a lifelong athlete who has competed at national levels and has experienced the highs and lows of competitive sports. His passion for athletics and helping others led him to his calling as an orthopaedic surgeon.
After finishing his undergraduate studies and leading the swim team at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, to its first NCAA national championship, Dr. Spann went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina. During medical school, he was selected as the president of the state Medical Student Section of the American Medical Association.
Dr. Spann served his orthopaedic residency at the Ochsner Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana. He went on to complete a prestigious spine surgery fellowship at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
Following his service with the US Army Medical Corps and an honorable discharge at the rank of major, Dr. Spann has led several practices and held numerous leadership positions, including becoming the Chairman of Orthopaedics at the largest hospital system in East Tennessee. Dr. Spann was also recruited to open the Spine Care Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Today, Dr. Spann combines his passion for orthopaedics, innovative medical practices — including regenerative medicine — and patient-focused care to deliver outstanding services to his patients.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Spann remains an avid athlete and enjoys spending time with his wife, Beth, and their family.
